Lord Anders (also called The Demon Pegasus or Duke Anders) is the Tyrant Ruler of the Everfree Castle and a villain of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Fandom. Lord Anders is an evil pegasus who believes that darkness should be balanced throughout the world, and so seeks to conquer Equestria and become its Ruler according to his wishes. He is responsible for several things that has happened in Equestria; having manipulated Luna who became Nightmare Moon, as well as allying himself with Discord the spirit of chaos and disharmony, then working alongside Chrysalis and the Changelings in order to take over Equestria, who led successive assaults on Canterlot, and then having tried to conquer the Crystal Empire. He controls an army of Evil Hyenas and Ponies. He is fearless in facing his opponents, regardless of their skills and magic abilities.

As the Demon Pegasus, Anders possess the power of Darkness, a power only Nightmare Moon once had ever demonstrated.

Development and design

Lord Anders's name comes from the Scandinavian word "Anders", the equivalent of the Greek word Andreas, meaning "manly" or "man" (man in the sense of male not in the sense of human). "Anders" is also a German word for "different". Lord Anders was inspired by several villains: Megatron from Transformers Prime, Scar from The Lion King, Hougen from Ginga Densetsu Weed, Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda, General Scales from Star Fox Adventures, Zant from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Bowser from Super Mario Bros, Ansem from Kingdom Hearts and Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda, but also Amon in some ways.

Lord Anders is a cyanish black pegasus with a blue/purple spiky mane and tail. Unlike regular pegasus wings, which is birdlike, Anders's wings is similar to that of a dragon. He has sharp teeth with two visible fangs unlike other ponies, and golden eyes with black irises. He also has different hooves than regular ponies. Lord Anders is larger than any of the other ponies, with the exception of Princess Celestia and Queen Chrysalis, who is about the same size.

History

Background

Anders was born in a Distant Land as the son of the former Captain of the Royal Guards, Lagow and his wife. He remained happy during his younger years, until he discovered his fighting abilities, prompting Lagow to display a harsher personality towards his son. Eventually, he was taught to become a good fighter by his father. One day, Lagow revealed his criminal life against the prince sses to him, and declared that it was his destiny to avenge him and claim Equestria for him. Every day, his father took him on supposed "walking trips", keeping the truth from his wife, in which he would train him to fight animals, such as goats and timberwolves.

Anders used his abilities to perform extraordinary feats, such as weather manipulation. Unfortunately, he carried the burdens of his father's expectations and eventually became cold and detached. Some day, Lagow wanted his son to fight against him, when Anders refused to do so Lagow lashed out on him for refusing to do so. Anders then angrily attacked his father and declared to Lagow that he was not as powerful as he was, and that if anyone should claim the throne of Equestria then it should be "him". Having gotten enough of being used by his father, Anders then ran off in search of becoming stronger alone.

Discovering the Element of Darkness

In his search for power, Anders eventually discovered the Element of Darkness seeking its power Anders infused the power of the element into himself. Strongly increasing his desire and mutating his appearance (Eks: Black skin, Dragon wings, Transformation of his cutie mark and Sharp teeth) as well as giving him Dark Powers. Having gotten this newfound powers Anders decided to take over Equestria and turn it into a world of Darkness (since he believes that Equestria can only be balanced through darkness).

Nightmare Moon

At some point in his life, he encountered an angered Princess Luna (which was angry because of the ponies not watching the night she had created) seeing his chance of using her to get the kingdom Anders quickly manipulated Luna into going against her sister and eventually her bitterness transformed her into the "wicked mare of darkness", Nightmare Moon. But due to her older sister Princess Celestia reluctantly harnessed the power of the Elements of Harmony and banished her "in" the moon, Anders plot was destroyed and the harmony in Equestria was restored leaving Anders in anger over his loss.

Followers

Shortly after his loss, Anders traveled through the world and was able to form an army/pack mostly formed of rogue or misfit creatures consisting mostly of: Earth Ponies, Pegasus, Unicorns and Hyenas. At an unknown point afterwards, Anders and his minions took control of a rundown castle in the Everfree Forest and turned it into their own castle, Everfree Castle. Anders and his followers then began on their quest to take over Equestria.

In Friendship is Magic and Meeting the main Ponies for the first time

After hearing about Nightmare Moons return, Anders quickly began to work on his plan to rejoin her once more. Shortly after she escaped her prison, Lord Anders along with his followers quickly offered her their service and decided to help her capturing her sister Princess Celestia, but she escaped before they could get the chance. When the six main ponies began looking for the Elements of Harmony, Lord Anders and his minions secretly followed and watched them.

When Twilight jumps in and disappears along with the purple mist. The other ponies, who are too late to save Twilight, quickly rushes off to an another tower were they see a glowing light. But before they could get inside the tower, they are ambused by Lord Anders and his followers. Applejack then ask who he is, but Anders refuses to clarify his identity and just tells them that he would not allow them assist their friend, and stop Nightmare Moon. Lord Anders then order his minions to take care of the ponies, while he goes to watch the confrontation between Twilight and Nightmare Moon (or as he says "the show").

But despite this, the five ponies were able to defeat Lord Anders's minions and quickly rushed into the tower.

While inside the tower Lord Anders happily watched from behind as Nightmare Moon destroyed the elements, but became suprised when the other ponies suddenly arrived. He then hears Twilight's speak about the elements and witnesses the elements of harmony being used by the six ponies to defeat Nightmare Moon, much to his horror.

Princess Celestia's then reunites with her restored sister, Princess Luna, and offers her sister the friendship they were meant to have all along. Luna emotionally accepts Celestia's offer, and tells her that she missed her dearly. But before anyone of the six ponies or the princesses could celebrate the reunion. Lord Anders angrily confronts the group and reveals that he was using Luna as a part of his plan.

Twilight then demands to know who he is, Anders then responds by saying: "I am Lord Anders, The Demon Pegasus" and tells them about his intentions, and that he is gonna make them pay for "this", he then disappears in a stream of darkness.

Aftermath

After having encountered the six ponies, he has been going on various plans to take over Equestria as well as eliminating the six ponies, but he mostly meets only short-lived success at best.

Princess Celestia is coming to Ponyville for a visit, and everyone is making sure it's perfect for her arrival, especially Twilight. However, things go wrong as Lord Anders plans to destroy Ponyville and takes a parasprite out of the Everfree forest and let's it meet Fluttershy. It soon evolves into a swarm of parasprites that causes chaos throughout Ponyville.

Twilight Sparkle learns that Pinkie Pie has an unusual ability to sense happenings in the immediate future, known as a "Pinkie Sense". But once something is happening to Fluttershy, Twilight and her friends then has to travel to the Everfree Forest – where Lord Anders and his minions live to make sure she is okay. Lord Anders then sends a hydra to get rid of them.

Rarity is searching for a new load of gems with Spike's assistance. However, when a group of creatures working for Lord Anders called the Diamond Dogs abduct Rarity, Spike and the other ponies has to head underground to rescue her.

Twilight Sparkle grapples with her conflicted feelings when she finds out her brother, Shining Armor, is marrying Princess Celestia's niece, Princess Cadance. Twilight also begins to suspect if Cadance has changed since their childhood. Shining Armor and Princess Cadance are set to be married, but "Cadance" along with Lord Anders has plots to ruin Shining Armor's happily ever after and the future of Equestria.

5	57	Magic Duel	After Trixie is defeated by Twilight, Lord Anders tells them that they haven't seen the last of him and complains that "he bet on the wrong unicorn", then disappears. The rest is the same as the original episode. (1987-09-12)
When Lord Anders makes a deal with Trixie, she returns to Ponyville, where she defeats Twilight Sparkle and banishes her from the town.
10	62	Keep Calm and Flutter On	After Discord decides to use his magic for good, Lord Anders becomes furious and proclaims (while secretly watching them) that Discord has fallen for Fluttershy's kindness and that he is of no use for him anymore, then leaves. (1987-09-19)
Princess Celestia tasks the ponies with reforming Discord, a mischievous spirit of disharmony, but Fluttershy is the only one who is willing to give him a chance. But she faces trouble as Lord Anders (having heard about this plot) wants to prevent Discord from joining his enemies and be "good".
13	65	Magical Mystery Cure	After Twilight's coronation as a princess, one of Lord Anders's pegasus soldiers (having observed the coronation) returns to the Everfree Castle and tells Lord Anders about this event. Suprised about this Lord Anders declares that it is time to accelerate his plans. (1987-09-19)
When Twilight casts a spell that switches the Cutie Marks and destinies of her friends, the only way to reverse the spell is by writing her own magic. And by doing so, then she will be able to fulfill her destiny and emerge as a princess.

Personality

In terms of personality, he is very bad-tempered and a schemer. He is competent enough to gain temporary success in many of his plans, but his success is mostly short-lived. Shortly after his defeat by the main ponies he began scheming to get revenge against them and swore to conquer all of Equestria to prove himself. Lord Anders is a very fierce, ruthless, sadistic, evil, and cruel pony. He does not doubt himself, and is always confident in his plans. He also appears to enjoy mocking his victims.

He is also shown to have an ego, believing that only he is worthy to rule the kingdom and showing an arrogant sense of entitlement. Anders is highly intelligent as he was able to rally a pack of hyenas to his cause and gain loyalty from several ponies. Lord Anders is a individual who is mainly concerned with gaining power and will eliminate anyone he sees as competition.

Anders is also shown to be very cunning. The reason for Lord Anders's very near rule of Equestria is his cruelty and mercilessness, a trait he shares with, Chrysalis and King Sombra. Anders states that his master plan is not just to rule Equestria, but to rule the world and rid it entirely of harmony. Despite occasional bumbling and a slight streak of cowardice, Anders is a valid threat to both Equestria & the main ponies. His greatest asset, however, is his intelligence and skills at manipulation. Lord Anders is conceived as monstrous, being feared by most ponies and challenged by few. His plans would range from kidnapping to taking over a country.

Powers and abilities

Lord Anders proves to be a powerful opponent. He possesses great physical strength and agility. After being exposed to the Dark Element, Anders was able to gain a lot of new abilities: He can fly, turn into a shadow and create dark tornadoes to shield himself, besides using them as melee weapons. Lord Anders can use dark energy to fire dark lightning orbs, and can either fire them directly from his hooves or create them in mid-air. He can use his "shadow form" to disappear and reappear at a different spot, but he rarely uses this form. Althought he is strong in his shadow form, he is even more powerful in his "true pony form".

Overall Lord Anders is an extremely skilled fighter. Able to escape as a shadow when in danger, Anders strikes his opponents with powerful, fast-paced combos. He can also attack foes with Dark-based Attacks. He also possesses physical strength sufficient enough to grab a fully-armored Royal Guard by the back of his head and lift him into the air with no effort.

Lord Anders is, to say the least, a skilled and extremely aggressive opponent, showing a mastery in both dark attacks and physical strength. He is swift and agile, able to perform complicated and nearly impossible acrobatic feats such as jumping off a high cliff while landing squarely on his hooves, and even riding a cloud. He can sink into the ground in his shadow form and materialize behind opponents at high speed to launch attacks. He can also surround himself with darkness to make his attacks more powerful.

Lord Anders can put his hooves together in the air to fire a large beam of dark energy. He appears to have great endurance, surviving most of his battles while taking little to no bodily damage, able to make instant recoveries. Anders is also a difficult opponent to fight in close combat, as he can quickly counterattack if struck multiple times, making him very dangerous. He rivals the power of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.

Weakness

He is unable to counter magic spells, due to not possessing any magical powers. As a villain affiliated with darkness, his weakness appears to be the power of: light, friendship, and other positive emotions. He is also weak against the Elements of Harmony.

Relationships

Minions/Followers

Lord Anders's followers are extremely loyal to their master and does mostly everything what he tells them to do. They consists of several creatures, mostly po ni es. They also shares the same belief and intentions as that of their leader. The armor they are wearing is different for each of the Pony species. They are recognized as Lord Anders's footsoldiers, they are often depicted as stupid, brutish and crude with a tendency to anger their master with their failures in carrying out his orders.

However the Hyenas is certainly not without threat, being large and strong with a tendency to carry large clubs they would no doubt cause great trouble if left to their own devices - bullying others on behalf of Lord Anders, yet due to their size and small brains they are not a match of the more agile and generally more intelligent "six main ponies" who often disturbs their plans of conquest or misdeeds. His army contains over 1,000 members.

The Six Main Ponies

Lord Anders's relationship with the main ponies has been bad from the very beginning. Anders, got defeated by the six ponies several times, and is determined to eliminate them (as he know that the power of the elements can only be used when all of the six ponies are together) but has never succeeded.

Out of all the six ponies, Twilight Sparkle is the one Lord Anders hates and dislikes most.

At a point, Lord Anders hears about Applejack's failure about getting a blue ribbon and become the "Equestria Rodeo Champion", as she had promised her friends and family. He then encounters Applejack and tells her that she could never show her "unhonestly" face to everyone as she had promised so much, but had not achieved anything. He then instructs her to just give her family what she owes them and never return to Ponyville, so she could not disappoint everyone. But despite this, Applejack is eventually able to reunite with her friends.

After hearing about Twilight's transformation into an Alicorn and coronation as a princess from one of his pegasus soldiers, Lord Anders becomes deeply shocked about this and declares that this event calls for an acceleration of his plans. He then decides to view Twilight as a more serious threat.

Princess Celestia

Anders's relationship with Celestia is really bad as they both show no less than hatred for each other, Due to the fact that they are the exact opposite of each other. Lord Anders has constantly conspired to usurp Princess Celestia and rule Equestria himself. While Celestia believes Darkness must be destroyed, Anders believes Darkness can be controlled with enough training.

Princess Luna

Luna has a strong hatred for Anders due to the fact that he used her to try to take over Equestria. However despite being cured thanks to the Elements of Harmony, Anders wasn't done toying with Luna yet, as he continues to taunt her for being used for his plan. Anders appears to take great enjoyment of taunting Luna, as he laughes hysterically at the her reactions. He plays with Luna's emotions as if he knows exactly what's going on in her head. This angers Luna greatly, turning her initial disgust for Anders into pure hatred.

Discord

He seems to have a great partnership with Discord as they both liked to see the six main ponies suffer as well as tricking them. When Lord Anders first encountered Discord he made a deal with him that if he helped him to get rid of the six ponies and take over Equestria he would let him engulf Equestria in chaos and disharmony in peace, seeing no problem with this he accepted.

At some point later, When he heard that Princess Celestia was sending Discord to Ponyville in hopes of turning him "good", he wasted no time trying to stop this plot. When Fluttershy was leaving Discord alone in her house, Anders confronted his old ally and told Discord to not fall for Fluttershy's kindness. He then gave him the idea about tricking Fluttershy into giving up her element, so that the ponies would never be able to spoil his "fun" again (as well as to not be able to defeat or stop any of them).

He then secretly watched him do his mischievous acts and became happy when the plan (about making Flutteshy give up her element) worked. But when Discord (having relished how important it is to have "a friend") decided to undo his evil/mischievous acts and use his magic for good, "most of the time". Lord Anders became furious and proclaims that "Seems like he has fallen for Fluttershy's kindness after all! Now i don't have any use for him" and leaves.

Trixie

Despite the two were on good terms with one another, Trixie was nothing more for Anders than a simple tool. Sometime while Trixie was working on a rock farm, she was confronted by Lord Anders that told her that he would help her to get her "Revenge" if she promised that she would get rid of Twilight Sparkle. Trixie (feeling vengeful against Twilight) accepted his offer and Anders told her about the Alicorn Amulet (but purposely forgot to tell her that the Amulet would corrupt her and make her evil) and where she could find it. He then gave her a bag full of coins so she could buy the Amulet. When Trixie defeated Twilight, Anders was so satisfied that he allowed to let Trixie rule over Ponyville. When Twilight returned and defeated Trixie in their rematch, Anders angrily confronted them and revealed that he was the one that helped Trixie to get the Alicorn Amulet in the first place, and that he was using her to get rid of Twilight. He then tells them that they haven't seen the last of him and disappears.

Darnemis

Anders dislikes Darnemis because of the way he used Anders to take over Equestria, due to this Anders shows no less than hatred for him and had even going as far as to work alongside his enemies in order to get revenge on him.

Queen Chrysalis

Main article: Queen Chrysalis

Lord Anders and Queen Chrysalis had a great partnership with each other, both sharing their disposition toward cruelty and violence. After hearing about Queen Chrysalis and her changeling minions plan to invade Canterlot, Lord Anders confronted her and asked if they could work together, since they both wanted the same thing. Chrysalis was unsure at first, but when Lord Anders confirmed that he knew about Princess Cadance whereabouts (the pony chrysalis wanted to impersonate), Chrysalis accepted the proposal. Lord Anders promised Chrysalis that when he ruled over Equestria, he would let her and her Changelings get all of Equestria's "Love". As their first move Lord Anders and his minions captured Princess Cadance and replaced her with Chrysalis in order to infiltrate Canterlot from the inside. Chrysalis and Anders succeeded, however their plan was destroyed by Princess Cadance and Shining Armor`s "Love" as well as Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Lord Anders was also very trustful of Chrysalis, believing that their plan would be successful.

Despite his apparent pride in Chrysalis abilities and sheer prowess, it was clear that Lord Anders held little true, unconditional, love for Chrysalis. Like Discord, she was largely a tool to further his own efforts at conquering the world. But overall both seemed to have a good relationship with each other.

King Sombra

Lord Anders does not like King Sombra due to the fact they both wanted to take over the Crystal Empire, because of this Anders saw Sombra as a competitor. Lord Anders first encountered Sombra when he and his followers were blocked from entering the Crystal Empire, because of the barrier created by Princess Cadance magic. Once King Sombra realised he was planning to take control of the Crystal Empire as well, he quickly attacked the evil pegasus. During their fight Lord Anders was able crack his horn which forced him to reatred. Once the barrier was gone Lord Anders and his minions invaded the Crystal Empire, like King Sombra. While his minions was not able to get inside the Empire before the barrier reactivated, Lord Anders managed to get inside and followed Twilight and Spike in an attempt to get the Crystal Heart. When Twilight and Spike reached the Crystal Heart, Lord Anders wasted no time trying to get it before them, but was stopped by King Sombra how also wanted it. Once Sombra had trapped Twilight in a wall of dark crystals, both Lord Anders and King Sombra attempted to get the Crystal Heart from Spike. But Cadance saved Spike from both of their attacks, and retrieved it. And used the power of the Crystal Heart to defeat King Sombra and sending Lord Anders and his minions out of the Crystal Empire.

Heavy Matter

Heavy met Lord Anders when he first became a Head of the Enmity Organization. They soon realized they are both similiar in almost every way, and their relationship hit off immediately and it didnt take long until she fell in love with him. Lord Anders is also showing to like her as well. They are spending a considerable amount of time together along with the other Heads, during which at some point Heavy would assist Lord Anders with his evil plans against Celestia. When Lord Anders began having his partnership with Chrysalis, Queen of the Changelings, Heavy became extremely jealous, she started watching them interact, with first glaring at them from a distance. When Queen Chrysalis was casted away to the far side of the Bad Lands because of Princess Cadance and Shining Armor's "Love", Heavy Matter was delighted to see her go.

Despite his evil nature, Lord Anders is shown to be somewhat nice and caring towards Heavy, she also retaliates those traits.

Clover Skull

When Lord Anders first encountered Clover Skull he was planning to get rid of him in order to get "The Red Cider". But due Clover`s luck he was unable to do so, once he learned that Clover Skull was selling the Cider he offered him a big pile of bits in exchange of the Cider. Clover accepted the offer and headed for his castle, once he arrived there Anders offered him a night inside his castle before his payment. Clover Skull accepted the offer and was escorted to his room, once alone Anders ordered his soldiers to get rid of him on the night (So that he did not need to pay him). However thanks to Clover`s luck no one his soldiers was able to get rid of him, thus Anders was forced to pay him.

The Destroyers (Rock band)

Lord Anders contacted the destroyers after finding an advert in the ponyville paper describing how they can be hired to perform music anywhere and for anypony (including him). So he decided to hire them to perform for his army in the Everfree castle (since he was tired of always hearing the ponies harmony songs).

The band decided that they'd do it at a reduced cost if Lord Anders put out a good reputation for them. The deal was done and now the destroyers play at Lord Anders's Castle twice weekly.

As promised Anders put out good reputation for them and this resulted with them getting huge popularity in equestria, getting them slots in bars, clubs and even DJ Vinyl Scratch's nightclub in ponyville.

Enmity Organization

After Nightmare Moon's defeat, Lord Anders have heard of this organization and was fascinated that there are others like him and his followers that share the same distaste for Celestia. He and his minions immediately joined Enmity and they were all impressed by his results. It wasn't long until Anders was made into one of the Heads of the Organization, and he made some improvements to it, making it the organization everypony knows today. Lord Anders would later draw more to Enmity's cause, like Riff Wrath. Lord Anders did such an excellent job making Enmity a growing organization, that they used his head as the symbol, and the black magic practitioners based their magic power warriors off of him.

Marisa and Co

Ever since Marisa and her friends arrived to Ponyville, they has been interfering with many of his evil plans. Because of that Lord Anders strongly dislikes them.

The Suffragraves (species)

Main article: Pain Suffragentice, Black Lullaby, Suffragrave Army

The Leader of the Suffragraves, Pain Suffragentice and his wife Black Lullaby had ran into the dark pegasus Lord Anders when their supply grew low and they were losing their land long ago. Anders had mentioned to them that if they helped him and became his allies to take over Equestria, he would spare them much land to care for their suffragrave families when he successfully took over. Pain assumed that it was a trick to make them gain a weakness, and so declined the offer.

However, Black Lullaby, worrying for their species, told Anders that she would follow his side without Pain knowing for the hope of the suffragrave cubs that are in the plains with no space for them to live. Lord Anders told her that he would keep his promise, since the Suffragraves is better with him than against him.

Nova Starlight

When Lord Anders first encountered Nova, he was trying to find the Element of Nature and use its power to take over Equestria, as well as the Wisteria kingdom. One day, Lord Anders encountered Nova Starlight and talks with her. As soon as he realize that Nova is Krystal (the ruler of Wisteria)'s adoptive daughter, he uses the power of darkness to control her. When Lord Anders and Krystal finally meet, Anders uses his control over Nova to make her attack her own mother using the power of darkness and more powerful attacks. Unable to harm her own daughter Krystal is defeated. As Lord Anders demands her to give him the element, Krystal tells him that she never had the element. Then Anders finally realize that Nova was the one with the element the whole time and tries to attack her, but is stopped and forced away by the power of the Element of Nature, freeing Nova from Lord Anders's control.
