Darnemis is a villain that terrorised Equestria with darkness and destruction over a millennium ago. But when the original 6 founders of Equestria used the Elements of Harmony to defeat him, Darnemis was imprisoned in stone and the Harmony in Equestria was restored. He was later freed from his prison by Lord Anders and starts to wreak havoc once again. Twilight Sparkle and her friends then had to venture off to retrieve the Elements of Harmony in order to stop him. He is also the brother of Discord. The word darnemis comes from the words darkness and nemesis.

Development

Darnemis was inspired by the characters: Braig/Xigbar from Kingdom hearts, The Mad Doctor from Epic Mickey and Hades from Disney Hercules.

Physical appearance

The word "draconequus" is composed of the Latin "draco" and "equus", meaning "dragon-horse". As a draconequus, Darnemis is a combination of many body parts from different creatures. His upper-head is horse-like, much different from the other character's head styles (resembles that of a "Mule"), with a unicorn horn on the top, two long snake like fangs on the front, different-sized and coloured pupils, the lower-jaw and neck of a dragon. He has the right arm of a tiger, the left arm of a bear, the right leg of a dog, and the left leg of a bull. In addition, he has a changeling's right wing, an eagle's left wing, a crocodile's body and a scorpion's tail. The shape of his body also resembles that of a snake. While Darnemis is technically a chimera, which is a creature with parts from multiple animals, this term is not used in the show. Interestingly enough Darnemis also bares a striking resemblance to the Chinese creature Qilin, often described as having the head of a dragon and a body of tiger with scales. Also as a creature with a single horn on its forehead, a multicolored back, the hooves of a horse, the body of a deer, and with the tail of an ox.

Darnemis is a mischievous, manipulative trickster who effortlessly pulls pranks on his targets through the use of his powerful magic, illusions, and hypnotism, with little to no consideration towards his victims. He prefers to be playful towards his victims before getting down to business, even mocking and taunting Celestia and Luna in Canterlot. He likes to laugh at the expense of others and often manipulates the laws of reality for the sake of his own amusement, often at the cost of others. Among other things, Darnemis is able to reverse ponies behaviors, making them miserable and depressed, and generally causing ridiculous, grotesque and destructive things to happen.

He has a laid-back, cocky attitude, and he often does not take things seriously. Darnemis is fierce, cruel and sadistic at times. He is also shown to be clever as he created an imitation of himself to fight against Twilight and her friends, instead of taking that chance self. He also enjoys eavesdropping on others conversations. Darnemis also cares very little for his brother, as he had no interest in helping him at all.

Magic and abilities

Like Discord, Darnemis possess a near limitless arsenal of magic, and is shown to be more powerful than Celestia and Luna. Despite this, his weakness appears to be love, joy, and other such positive emotions.

His greatest weakness are the Elements of Harmony.

History

First Defeat

A long time ago Darnemis (The spirit of Destruction) terrorised Equestria bringing Darkness and Destruction to its people. However the original 6 founders of Equestria used the power of the Elements of Harmony to imprison him in stone and banishing him into Tartarus maintaining harmony in Equestria.

Sometime after his defeat, his brother Discord (The spirit of Chaos) tried to engulf Equestria in chaos and disharmony, but was defeated by Princess Celestia and Luna.

A Millennium Later

When Lord Anders traveled into the Ancient kingdom Tartarus in hope of discovering something that could help him to take over Equestria. Anders and his minions eventually discovered Darnemis statue, due to his connection with the darkness, Anders was able to communicate with Darnemis. Darnemis promised that if he released him out of his prison he would help Anders ancomplis his goals. Using his dark powers Anders was able to free Darnemis from his prison. Lord Anders and Darnemis then began on their plan. As their first move, Anders and Darnemis steals and hides the Elements of Harmony inside the Everfree Castle and then kidnapped Twilight Sparkle and her friends and imprisoned them in the dungeon of the Everfree Castle. Darnemis and Anders then traveled to Canterlot to claim Equestria, were they confronted Princess Celestia and Luna. Celestia and Luna is suprised to see that Darnemis has escaped his prison. Celestia and Luna then both attempted to defeat Darnemis with their magic. However, it appears that Darnemis's power exceeds even theirs. Darnemis then fires a beam of red energy that defeats both of them, Celestia and Luna then lies on the ground defeated. Lord Anders is delighted over this and shouts that Equestria is finally his. But Darnemis then turns around and reveals that he was never planning to help Anders and was just using him to escape his prison so that he could put Equestria in ethernal destruction, he also reveals that Discord "the spirit of Chaos" is his brother shocking everyone. Anders then proclaims Darnemis a traitor, furious that he had pointlessly helped him. He then proceeds to attack, but is stopped by Darnemis's magical powers. Darnemis then tells him that he had served him well, and throws him away into the sky. Darnemis then uses his powers to reshape Canterlot (similar to Discord).

Twilight Sparkle and her friends seeing the black sky feels that something is very wrong. They agree to escape the Castle but dont know how as they are imprisoned. But then suddenly the door to their prison is opened by Lord Anders. Twilight and her friends are confused about this and quickly ask him why he is releasing them. He explained that Darnemis has defeated Celestia and Luna and that he was tricked by Darnemis, he also told them that Darnemis is Discord's brother, much to their suprise. Anders then offered them a chance into working together in order to defeat Darnemis. Rainbow Dash does not like the idea about working together with Lord Anders, but Twilight realize that Anders is the only one that know were the elements is and explains that they has to work together. Lord Anders then tells them where the elements is and they quickly ventured off to retrieve the Elements of Harmony in order to stop Darnemis. After regaining the Elements, Anders urged Twilight and her friends to "put an end to this story". Twilight Sparkle and her friends along with Lord Anders then quickly traveled to the ruined Canterlot to face Darnemis.

Once they arrived they quickly encountered Darnemis, after realising that they has regained the Elements of Harmony, Darnemis quickly attacked them and was able to knock out Twilight. Knowing that the power of the Elements won`t work unless all of the six ponies are together Darnemis then attempted to finish them off but was ambushed by Lord Anders. Darnemis then pulled him on the ground and asked Anders how he could believe that he could defeat him. Anders then replied that he was never planning on defeating him, just distracting him. Darnemis then turns around to discover that Twilight has awakened and has gained back her Element. Darnemis then attempts to escape, but is pushed on the ground by Lord Anders. Seeing their chance the six ponies combine their powers and fire a giant rainbow at Darnemis. Darnemis looks in horror before the power of the Elements goes through his chest, creating a hole as Darnemis begins to lose power. Darnemis's powers starts to burst away, with all of it disappearing against his will. Darnemis then disappear with no trace left behind at all. The dark clouds that took place during the battle leave, as a sun-light returns. Equestria is reverted back to normal, and all destruction and disharmony caused by Darnemis is removed. Twilight Sparkle and her friends are then encountered by Celestia and Luna that congratulate them over their victory and tells them that Darnemis is away from the world to never come back, as Twillight is delighted. Her friends are as well, as they reconcile with one-another Twilight then come to think about Anders and quickly looks at the spot where he was only to discover that Anders has escaped. Even though Lord Anders is gone, Twilight knows that he is thankful and is happy about what they had done.

Aftermath

However unknown to them, the real Darnemis has been hiding in a shadow all along and the "Darnemis" Twilight and her friends defeated had only been an imitation. Darnemis then proclaims that he will get revenge on all of them for having destroyed his plot, although not before finding a way to defeat them. Darnemis then flies off into the distance, seeking to have it a little "fun".

Corrupting Apathy

At some point, Darnemis meet a heartbroken Apathy and decided to use him as his "puppet" in order to bring destruction to the life of those who are close to him.

In order to further his corruption over him, Darnemis created an evil copy of the pony he was in love with to taunt him, which he named "Misara".
