Skyknight

Backstory[]

Skyknight was born to a family of earth ponies who made a meager living farming. As a pegasus, he lacked the brute strength blessed to earth ponies, and thus wasn't able to contribute much in the family's line of work, and they treated him as an outsider. One of his siblings, Blackbird, suffered the same  misfortune and fed up with their family the two eventually decided to run away. It is commonly believed that they changed their names after doing so, so as to erase all connections to the family they hated. Their original names are not known.

War With Discord[]

Skyknight joined the fight the day the war started, and quickly became an ace. While his attire was usually very modest, he wore a wore a silk shirt, bowtie, flier's cape, and all of his flying medals (of which there were many), whenever he flew so as to look respectible if he were ever captured (he often joked that he wanted to look presentable to the dames of Canterlot if he were ever shot down there).

Death[]

Skyknight was ambushed by six enemy fliers whilst he was on a patrol. He was completely alone but decided to fight back, despite having multiple opportunities to escape (He and his best friend, Starstorm the Red, harbored a fierce rivalry in terms of how many kills they could achieve, and his desire to get ahead likely clouded his judgement). Several minutes into the fight Blackbird stumbled across the fight and tried to help but was shot down almost immediately. Skyknight continued fighting and shot down two of his enemies before ultimately being killed. The leader of the flight that attacked him later described Skyknight as "the bravest Alicorn flier" (in reference to his faction, not his species).

Inspiration[]

Skyknight was loosely inspired by a WW1 ace by the name of Werner Voss, and the above fight is virtually identical to the fight in which Voss was killed. His last name comes from "Karaya 1", which was the callsign of the Blond Knight of Germany, the highest-scoring fighter ace in aviation history.
